Myrtle Krogstad

Funeral Services for Myrtle Krogstad has been postponed due to the weather until Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Barsness Lutheran Church, rural Glenwood, Minnesota. Reverend Eileen Mehl will be officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck and on Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be at Barsness Lutheran Cemetery, rural Glenwood.

Myrtle Henrietta Imes, daughter of Ole K. and Theoline (Agre) Imes was born June 8, 1913, near Echo, Minnesota in Yellow Medicine County. Myrtle's mother and unborn infant sibling died in 1914. She grew up living with her grandparents until 1919, when her father was remarried. Myrtle attended country school and graduated from West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, Minnesota. On December 14, 1934, Myrtle was united in marriage to Chester Krogstad at the Granite Falls parsonage by Reverend O.J. Erickson. The couple resided in the Echo, Granite Falls and Sacred Heart area until November 1953, when they moved to a farm near Starbuck, Minnesota. They were blessed with five children. In 1983, the couple made their home in the Glenview Apartments in Glenwood, Minnesota. Chester passed away on October 17, 1990. Myrtle entered the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, on March 6, 2002, where she continued to live until the time of her death.

Myrtle was an active member of WELCA at Barsness Lutheran Church, the VFW Auxillary in Starbuck and the Barsness Homemakers Group. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, cooking, sewing, gardening, and quilting. The things she loved most in her life were wall papering, helping people, traveling, and being with family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Myrtle died on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having reached the age of 98.

Myrtle is survived by: two sons, Cortlan (JoAnne) Krogstad, Alexandria, MN and Dale (Kay) Krogstad, Buckeye, AZ; three daughters, Sharon (Lauris) Johnshoy, Starbuck, MN, Patricia (Henry) Moen, Bemidji, MN and Mary (Galen) Hillerud, Starbuck, MN; one half-sister, LaBonna (Galen) Skjefte, Granite Falls, MN; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester, her parents, two infant grandsons, one infant sister, her step-mother, Hannah, and three half-brothers, Raymond, Merald and Orville.

Pallbearers for the service will be: Jeffery Krogstad, Todd Johnshoy, Dee Ann Hoverud, Kari Krogstad, Patrick Lochwood, Pamela Adams, Tom Johnshoy, Shawna Miller, Stacey Hillerud, Kenneth Moen, Sue Martin, Jonathan Krogstad, Kelli Klee, Craig Moen, Paul Johnshoy, and Scott Hillerud. Lanny Barsness will serve as soloist with Delores Strommen as organist.
