Funeral services for Myrtle Wellman of Chokio will be held Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio, MN. Reverend Dell Sanderson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Myrtle Gladys Berdella Siebrecht, daughter of John and Mathilida (Paulson) Siebrecht, was born February 15, 1911 in Synnes Township in Stevens County, Minnesota. She grew up in the Alberta, Minnesota area, where she also attended and graduated from Alberta High School. Myrtle was united in marriage to Lester Wellman on June 15, 1932 in Hancock, Minnesota. There were three children born to this union. The couple made their home in the Morris area, where they farmed and raised their children. On August 23, 1966, they retired from farming and moved to Starbuck, MN where they were members of Minnewaska Lutheran Church. Lester died in May, 1982 and Myrtle then moved to Chokio and later to the Barrett Care Center in Barrett, MN, where she continued to live until the time of her death.
Myrtle was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Chokio. She enjoyed sewing, gardening cooking, playing cards, and quilting. She made baby quilts for all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Myrtle also enjoyed spending time at the Senior Citizen Center in Chokio and spending time with her family.
Myrtle died on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Barrett Care Center in Barrett, having lived to reach the age of 101 years.
She is survived by two sons: Gary (Linda) Wellman of Elbow Lake and Kenneth (Lani) Wellman of Merrimac, WI; son-in-law: Wallace (Luella) Raasch of Morris; sister-in-law: Ada Eliason of Morris; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; daughter, Liane Raasch; her parents; nine brothers: Harry, Elmer, John, Ervin, Art, Lloyd, Del, William and Marvin, two sisters, Stella and Vera and daughter-in-law, Sylvia Wellman.
Pallbearers for the service will be Myrtle's granddaughters: Dorothy Schneider, Joyce Gausman, Karen Zimmerman, Beverly Berg, Donna Eul, Deloris Daly, Brenda Backland and Teresa Harper. Julene Amborn will serve as organist for the service. Special music will be provided by Matt Sieckert. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
