A private funeral service will be held for Nicholas Daly at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Father Stan Wieser will serve as celebrant for the service. A public burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Chokio on November 9th at 12:00 p.m.

While maintaining social distancing guidelines, we are now able to accommodate gatherings of up to 250 people. The use of face masks by attendees is required, and we will continue taking the necessary steps to keep our facility clean. Nicholas Joseph Daly was born on May 1, 1934 to Ruth (Pechan) and Joseph Kinney in Swanville, MN. At the age of 5 Nick and his siblings moved to an orphanage in St. Cloud, MN. At the age of 11, Nick and his sister Margaret, were adopted by Leo and Lucy Daly and moved to a farm near Donnelly. Nick attended Country School in Section 6 of Pepperton Township in Stevens County and graduated from Chokio High School in 1952. After graduation, Nick served in the Army from December 7, 1954 to May 21, 1956. During that time, he was stationed in Germany and played the trombone in the Army Band. Once he completed his service, he attended the Veterans Agriculture Program and farmed on the family farm west of Donnelly. During the winter of 1959 he worked at Northrup King in Minneapolis. In 1958 he met Karen Foley at the Pylin Drive-In. Two years later they were united in marriage on the rainy day of July 16, 1960 at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. They were happily married for the next 60 years. Out of this marriage Nick and Karen had six children: Patrick, Roger, Barbara, Paul, Sandra, and Brian. He served on the C-A School Board, Pepperton Township board, Knights of Columbus, Donnelly Co-op Board, and the St. Theresia Church Council in Donnelly.

He was a private pilot for 48 years, was Treasurer for Pomme de Terre Flying Clubs, and shot trap for 25 years for the Moose Island Raiders. He also enjoyed golfing, playing horseshoe, and hunting, especially deer hunting.

Nicholas Daly passed away on November 4, 2020 at Homestead North Assisted Living in Benson at the age of 86.

He is survived by his wife Karen Daly of Chokio; his children: son Patrick (Delores) Daly of Morris, and grandchildren: Jacob (Nikki) Daly, Jessica (Chris) Grandalen, Abby Daly, son Roger (Corinne) Daly of Jacksonville, Florida, and step-grandchild Robert Hill, daughter Barbara (William) Baus of Redfield, South Dakota, and grandchildren: Brandon (Alysha) Baus, Andrew Baus, Kara (Kyle) Woodward, son Paul (Pam) Daly of Donnelly, and grandchildren: Justin Daly, Mitchell (Bree) Daly, Nicole (Anthony) Homan, daughter Sandra Kilen of Fargo, North Dakota, and grandchildren: Amber (Bryce) Brady, Tyler Kilen, and Austin Kilen, son Brian (Kris) Daly of Alberta, and step-grandchildren: Kolby (Derek) Gausman, Mackenzie (TJ) Severance, and Abigail Kontz; his sister Margaret Kenehan of Glendale, Wisconsin; brother Martin (Mary) Kinney of Coon Rapids, 13 great-grandchildren, 7 step-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Evelyn Kinney, parents Ruth (Pechan) and Joseph Kinney, adoptive parents: Leo and Lucy Daly, father and mother-in-law: Mike and Ruth Foley, brothers-in-law: Jack and David Foley, and sister-in-law Phyllis Foley.
