Funeral services for Nora Mickelson of Cyrus will be held Monday, January 2, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus. Reverend John R. Smith will be officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Cyrus South Cemetery.
Nora Mickelson, age 95, resident of Cyrus, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.
Nora Mickelson was born on August 7, 1916, in Williams, Iowa, to John and Inger (Hill) Halvorson. She was baptized on September 17, 1916 at Williams Rose Grove Lutheran Church and on July 19, 1931 she was confirmed in Hancock, Minnesota. She was married to Ernest O. Mickelson on September 5, 1942, in the Cyrus Parsonage. They lived in rural Cyrus, where they farmed and she was a homemaker and raised chickens and pigs. Nora spent much time at Trinity Lutheran in Cyrus, where she belonged to WELCA, served on the Education and Stewardship committees, as Sunday school and Release Time teacher, and as president of the Ladies' Aid. She participated in the "Godly Women Out of History" traveling play. She spent much time in her flower and rock garden, and enjoyed geography, traveling, live theater, quilting, baking, and spending time with family and friends.
Nora is survived by four children: Darlene Aaberg of Starbuck, William Mickelson of Cyrus, Joel Mickelson of Cyrus, and Ruth (Kenneth) Schiefelbein of Starbuck; five grandchildren: Sally (Marlin) Marquette of Foley, Andrew (Beth) Aaberg of Starbuck, Kyle Schiefelbein of Berkeley, CA, Adam (Laura) Aaberg of Starbuck, and Katie (Troy) Henry of Sauk Rapids; and three great-grandchildren: Jennifer Marquette of Foley, Emily Marquette of Foley, and Ella Aaberg of Starbuck. She is preceded in death by her husband Ernest, and her siblings Evelyn Esplien, Alice Messner, Lena Reed, Ida Halvorson, and Johnny Halvorson.
