Norbert Budig

Memorial services for Norbert Budig of Morris, Minnesota will be held Monday, May 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Father Todd Schneider will be officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 9:00 to 11:00 at the church.

Norbert William Budig, son of Willibald and Louise (Schwartz) Budig, was born January 6, 1935 in Leaf River Township near Wadena, Minnesota. He grew up and attended school in Wadena, graduating in 1953. He attended Hanson Auto Mechanics School after serving in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957, where he was stationed in Korea. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Schleder on October 7, 1958 in Blue Grass, Minnesota. The family made their home in Morris. Norbert worked at Hemmings Auto for 10 years, before purchasing Budig's grocery store in 1968. Norbert and Gerry continued to run the grocery store until their retirement. In his retirement, he also worked at Unger's Furniture and Morris Auto Plaza.

He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church; serving on St. Mary's School Board and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, feeding birds, yard work, sitting in the gazebo and keeping their home looking great. He also enjoyed traveling with Gerry and was proud that they traveled to all of the 48 contiguous states.

Norbert passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, Minnesota. He lived to reach the age of 80 years.

He is survived by his wife: Geraldine Budig of Morris; five children: Mary (Bruce) Evens at St Cloud, Charlene (Thomas) Schutz of Dawson, Gregory (Cindy) Budig of St. Cloud, Debra Budig of St. Cloud and Brenda (Kevin) Becker of Alexandria; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings: Herbert (Donna) Budig of Owatonna and Ruth (Dennis) Boehland of Buffalo and sister-in-law: Jeanette Budig of Baraboo, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters: Rose Budig, Hilda Rohlf, Isabel Heltemes, Marie Budig and Evelyn Langer and two brothers: Raymond and Sylvester Budig.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
