Funeral services for Norman Meyer of Cyrus, MN will be held Monday, August 17, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus, MN. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be at a later date.
Norman William Meyer, son of Harold and Elsie (Haack) Meyer, was born February 1, 1931 in Clements, Minnesota in Redwood Falls County. He was baptized at Sundown Lutheran Church in rural Springfield. As a young boy his family moved to a farm in the Starbuck area in 1941. Norman was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Starbuck in 1945, he attended school in District #44 through the 8th grade.
After his schooling he worked on the family farm. Norman was united in marriage to Joyce Harrison on November 5, 1954 at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris, MN. He then worked at the Starbuck Creamery until June of 1955. In September of 1956 he and Joyce moved to a farm 2 miles west of Cyrus, which they later purchased. Norman enjoyed farming until 1978 when a fire destroyed the dairy barn. At that time he started driving truck for Alan Berg of Cyrus, MN until 1980 when he and Joyce became owner-operator of Long Lake Trucking. Norman drove for Terminal Trucking out of Blaine, MN from 1980 until 1990 and then began driving for Transport America in Eagan, MN until his retirement in 2012.
Norman and Joyce drove as a team and viewed their many years of cross country trucking as an enjoyable working vacation.
Norman died, Monday, August 10, 2015 at Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul, MN. He lived to 84 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joyce of Cyrus; his children: Robert (Lynn Peteler), Rogers, MN; Patricia (George) Schmidt, Onalaska, WI; Kathryn (fiancé Boyd Kremin) Wevley, Glenwood, MN; and Thomas (Brenda), Fargo, ND; siblings: Margaret Lawson, Belle Plaine, MN; Howard (Vicki), Corvallis, OR; Richard (Nedra), Meadowlands, MN and one sister-in-law Karen Meyer, Alexandria, MN and ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Donald.
Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
