Oliver Cornell Felt, son of Oscar and Mabel (Thorstad) Felt, was born April 19, 1920 in Blue Mounds Township in Pope County, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. He grew up and received his schooling in the Starbuck area. Following his schooling, he worked on the family farm until January, 1942, when he enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Alaska, where he served as a supply clerk. On October 31, 1945, he received an honorable discharge at Ft. McCoy, Wisconsin, having reached the rank of Corporal. Following his discharge, he returned to Starbuck and began working as a carpenter with his father. He also worked in several positions in the local law enforcement, including the Pope County Sheriffs Department. On September 2, 1977, he was united in marriage to Lorinda DeJong at the Fron Lutheran Church Chapel. The couple worked and made their home in Starbuck, until the time of his death.
Oliver enjoyed wood working, fishing and bowling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Oliver died on Sunday, October 28, 2007 at the Bethany Home in Alexandria, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 87 years.
He is survived by his wife: Lorinda Felt of Starbuck; one son: Tim (Val) DeJong of Lake Park; one daughter: Lori Allen of Roland, OK; six grandchildren: Kevin DeJong of Arden Hills, Kari DeJong of St. Paul, Becky (Clay) Brown of Ft. Smith, AK, Michael (Stephanie ) Allen of Gans, OK, Sherri (Ron) Smith of Ft. Smith, AK and Cory (Amanda) Allen of Roland, OK; nine great-grandchildren; one brother: Lester (Vi) Felt of Starbuck; one sister: Winona Mortenson of Starbuck and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Kermit and twin infant brothers.
Serving as pallbearers for the service are: Hanley Mortenson, Mark Felt, Troy Kuczek, Tim DeJong, Kevin DeJong and Jeff Stredde. Honorary pallbearers are Herman Felt, Lester Felt, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and all who called him friend. Delores Strommen will serve as organist for the service, with Lanny Barsness serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
