Paul Leroy Bruns was born on October 12, 1925 to Fred and Gladys (Towner) Bruns in the family home where Paul lived the majority of his life. Paul attended grade school in District 33 and went on to graduate from West Central School of Agriculture. After graduation, he started farming with his dad and brother, Dale. He married Joan Bartell from Herman, on June 16, 1948. To this union they were blessed with two sons, Jerry and Bill and two daughters, Sheila and Wanda. Paul farmed until 1994 when he sold the family farm to Jerry. Paul then went on to work casually as a janitor at the Morris High School and delivered fertilizer for Johnsons Grain. He spent 6½ years working at Hoffman Aseptic Packaging. He also worked on construction in California, Arkansas, Michigan and Northern Minnesota.
Paul served on the District 33 school board and on the West Central livestock board. Paul devoted his life to serving Jesus Christ and traveled many miles to have fellowship with his church family. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Paul and Joan made many trips to Canada visiting their daughters. Attending the grandchildren's sporting events and cheering them on brought him much enjoyment. He loved to deer hunt in the fall with his sons, grandsons and brother. In his earlier years he enjoyed duck hunting as well.
Paul passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, with family by his side at the Barrett Care Center. He lived to 90 years.
