Pearl Hanse

November 30, 1915 — August 23, 2010

Pearl Gunhild Jacobson, daughter of George and Hannah (Davidson) Jacobson, was born November 30, 1915 in Baker Township in Stevens County, Minnesota, where she grew up. She was baptized at Reque Lutheran Church, rural Alberta, MN. Pearl graduated from Chokio High School in 1931. On June 12, 1936, she was united in marriage to Walter Hanse at the Reque Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, the couple lived three miles east of Cyrus on the Hanse farm, where they raised their children. In 1968, Pearl graduated from the University of Minnesota, Morris, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. She taught in the Morris Public Schools for over 20 years, and served as a private tutor for many years after retiring. Walter died on March 13, 1986. Pearl continued to live on the farm until 2004, then moving to Cyrus, where she has continued to live until the time of her death.



Pearl was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus, where she served on various committees. She was a collector and dealer of many antiques. Pearl especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends.



Pearl died on Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 94 years.



She is survived by two children: Susan (Steve) Leitte of Fergus Falls and Joel (Diane) Hanse of Morris; seven grandchildren: Lynn Leitte, Julie Leitte Hovel, Deborah Hanse Eilers, Eric Hanse, Kristin Hanse Bowie, Riley Brown and Liberty Brown Riley and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters: Karen Brown and Bonnie Helberg; two infant grandsons; her parents; four brothers: Joseph, Dayton, Herbert and Reuben Jacobson and one sister: Myrtle Solvie.



Pallbearers for the service are: Scott Estenson, Mark Estenson, Peter Brandt, Tom Olson, Gary Jacobson and Adam Wink . Honorary pallbearers are Jere Ettesvold, Ted Estenson and Kinfolk. Nola Smith will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
