Following graduation, he entered the Air Force. He was united in marriage to Rosella Sauter at the Assumption Catholic Church, Morris on June 4, 1957. They made their first home at Langley Air Force Base in Hamption, VA. Following his discharge in 1960, he went to Meat Cutting School and worked for his father as Meat Department Manager at Juergensen's Super Valu in Morris. He was also a member of the American Legion and Eagles.

In 2000, Perry and Rosie purchased a lake home on Leech Lake at Walker, MN to spend the summers near their children and grandchildren. It was here that he passed away unexpectedly on June 10, 2014, at the age of 76, enjoying what he loved to do.
