Phyllis Klemme

The memorial service for Phyllis Klemme, of Starbuck, Minnesota formerly of Little Falls, Minnesota will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck, with Reverend Paul Johnson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. A private burial will be at the Minnesota Veteran's Cemetery at Camp Ripley in Little Falls, Minnesota.
Phyllis Granstrom, daughter of Philip and Clara (Norskog) Granstrom was born, baptized and confirmed at Bird Island, Minnesota. She attended school in Bird Island, before moving with her family to Santa Monica, California; graduating from Santa Monica High School. Phyllis later returned to Minnesota and attended the St. Cloud Teacher's College. Upon her graduation, she taught school at Aitken, Olivia and on occasion substitute taught kindergarten at Little Falls. Phyllis was united in marriage to G. Harmon Klemme on June 6, 1950 in Bird Island. Phyllis worked as a tour guide for the Charles A. Lindberg home, museum and interpretive center from the late 1970's through the 1990's. Harmon died in 1997. Phyllis married Clarence Welander. Clarence died in 2006. Phyllis continued to live in Little Falls, before moving to Starbuck, Minnesota in 2014, to live with her son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Miriam.
Phyllis belonged to the First Lutheran and later the Faith Lutheran Church in Little Falls. In her final years, she was a member of the Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck. She was active with the P.E.O. (BB Chapter) and was a church organist. Phyllis enjoyed playing the church organ and singing in the church choir. She was a world traveler; spent time reading and doing needle work and embroidery. Phyllis was a big Minnesota Twins fan. That was "her team!" She loved animals, but all the more was blessed with her time with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was known for her loving kindness and generosity. Phyllis loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and is now with Him and the Church Triumphant. Blessed be her memories.
Phyllis died on Monday, September 14, 2015 at her son's home in Starbuck. She was 89 years old.
She is survived by two sons, Mark (Sharon) Klemme, Fridley, MN and Todd (Miriam) Klemme, Starbuck, MN; seven Klemme grandchildren, Rachelle (Carl) Thunem, Jerilyn (Andrew) Alsdurf, Joel, Daniel (Emily), Micah, Matthew and Peter. Phyllis is preceded in death by her husbands, parents, step-daughter, Linda Guyot, step-son, Kenneth Welander, sister, Ardis Fulwider and nephew, James Fulwider.
