Funeral services for Raymond Murphy of Alexandria, MN will be held Monday, January 17, 2011 at 10:30 am at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, MN. Father Tim Baltes will be officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 8 pm with a rosary at 7 and a prayer service at 7:30 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Morris.

Raymond Dennis Murphy, son of William and Mary (Dewane) Murphy, was born July 1, 1931 in Morris, Minnesota. Raymond grew up on a farm in Horton Township and graduated from West Central School of Agriculture in 1949. Raymond was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Henrichs on May 23, 1953. They were blessed with eight children: Mark, Craig, Jeanne, Mary, Tom, Pat, Colleen and Alice.

Raymond and Beverly farmed in Horton Township on the Murphy family farm until 1987 when they moved to Rogers, Arkansas. Raymond worked at Burns/Rollins Funeral Home for 14 years. He also drove school bus for the Rogers/Bentonville School District. In 2002, they returned to Alexandria, Minnesota to retire.

Raymond was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus; he served on the Board of Education for District 41 and St. Mary's School. He served as a member of Assumption Church Parish Council and the Social Life Action Committee. He was an active 4-H member and leader. Raymond was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Alexandria, Minnesota; St Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, Rogers, AR and Assumption Catholic Church, Morris, Minnesota.

Raymond enjoyed farming, baseball, his children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Raymond died of cancer at his home on Thursday, January 13, 2011, having lived to reach the age of 79 years.

He is survived by eight children, Mark (Jane) Murphy, Eureka Springs, AR; Craig (Joanie) Murphy, Morris; Jeanne (Terry) Hetland, Osakis; Mary (Ron) Krueger, Alexandria; Tom (Ruth) Murphy, Eureka Springs, AR; Pat Murphy, Bloomington; Colleen (Curt) Schaffran, Apple Valley; and Alice (Bruce) Bosek, Lowry; 18 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 6 step-grandchildren. Raymond is survived by two sisters, Rosalys Weiler and Mary Ellen Montonye, both of Morris; two brothers, James "Bill" Murphy, West Des Moines, IA; George (Genny) Murphy, Menomonie, WI; and also survived by Beverly's family, Jeanette Saunders, Benson; Patsy Bludorn (Denis Fencis), St. Cloud; Virginia (Gary) Brumm, Perham; Delbert (Bev) Henrichs, New Richmond, WI, Roger (Kathy) Henrichs, Huntley, MT and Perry (Pricilla) Henrichs, Morris. Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly; parents, William and Mary Murphy; brother-in-laws Paul Montonye, Maurice Weiler, Gordon "Bud" Bludorn, James Saunders and sister-in-law Barb Oletzke.

Pallbearers for the service are Ray's Grandchildren: Erin Murphy, Kent Hetland, Josiah Hetland, Adam Krueger, Matt Schaffran and Shane Bosek. Honorary pallbearers are: Missy Crockett, Jason Hetland, Nicole Nortunen, Tyler Hetland, Breanna Gould, Josh Hetland, Brandon Hetland, Isaac Hetland, Jessica Krueger, Lauren Schaffran, Zach Schaffran and Shannon Bosek. Ken and Linda Hodgson will provide special music for the service, with Michael Anderson serving as bagpiper. Pedersen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
