Raymond Lee Thymian, son of William and Minnie (Math) Thymian, was born November 14, 1933 on the family farm in Wilkin County, near Rothsay, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended school. After his schooling, Ray worked on the family farm until the age of 21, when he moved to Fargo, North Dakota and worked as a roofer. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Teterud on November 26, 1954 at Hammer Lutheran Church in Rothsay. In 1961, Ray got a call from Jerry McGinnis, who was looking for a repairman. The couple moved to Morris, where Ray worked for McGinnis Appliance until 1974, when he purchased the business from Jerry. Ray continued to work in the business with his sons, Greg and Randy, until his spinal cord accident in April of 2009.
Ray was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Morris. He enjoyed to fish, deer hunt and ride 4-wheelers. In recent years, He and Marilyn enjoyed spending winters in Texas and summer months at Mill Lake near Alexandria, Minnesota. Ray enjoyed playing a good game of cards and loved to spend time with his family. He will be remembered for his innovative mind, as Ray was always thinking of how to fix or make something easier.
