Richard Friesen

The funeral for Richard Friesen, of Morris, Minnesota will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Alberta, Minnesota, with Reverend Ed Anderson officiating. Visitation will be on Monday at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris from 5 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be at a later date at the Pepperton Cemetery, Alberta.

Richard Friesen was born on Dec 6, 1933 on a farm in Cottonwood County, near Windom, Minnesota. Rich was the first of nine children born to Henry and Chrystal (Schminowski) Friesen. He graduated from Mountain Lake High School in Mountain Lake, Minnesota.

In June 1954 he enlisted in the U. S. Army. He was honorably discharged in May of 1957. After discharge he went roller skating one night. A young lady came up to him and chose him for "ladies choice". Rich never, ever let her forget that. Rich and Judy were married August 8, 1959 and celebrated 54 years of marriage this past August. To this union four children were born, Kari Jo, Larry Alan, Jeffrey Alan and Kris Alan.

Rich worked for the West Central Experiment Station in Morris for 36 years. At his retirement he was a Supervisor of the farm crew. He enjoyed working with the land.

Rich loved to fish, fish and fish. He also loved to hunt, garden, camp and anything he could find to do outside. He had thirteen grandchildren and he loved on each of them in his own special way. He always had a pocket full of life savers. He loved greatly and leaves big shoes to fill.

He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene where he has served as SS Supt., board member, song leader and SS teacher. He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior almost fifty years ago and was baptized as an adult. He loved Jesus and talked to him daily. Rich was a Gideon and belonged to the American Legion.

He passed away October 17, 2013 at his home west of Morris, due to a farm accident.

Rich is survived by his wife Judy, Morris; his four children: Kari (Mike) Hastings, Bells, TX, Larry (Mary) Friesen, Morris, Jeff (Paula) Friesen, New Port Richie, FL, Kris (Tanya) Friesen, Barnesville, MN; 13 grandchildren: Melissa, Kayla, Randi (Whit), Jayme (Kendra), Darrick, Haley, Mikaela, Jeffrey Jr., Jaeden, Emma, Tyler, Tanner, and Elyn and two great grandchildren, Hayden and Kellen. Four brothers: Russ (Nancy) Friesen, Monticello MN, Robert Friesen, Starbuck MN, Ronald (Deloris) Friesen, Fergus Falls MN, Randy (Donna) Friesen, Bagdad KY, two sisters: Carol (David) Groff, Clara City MN, Sandy (Doug) Buchan, Carthage TX. Also surviving Rich are many nieces and nephews.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Chrystal, an infant brother, Weldon and his brother Ray.
