Richard Allen Harris, son of Hamilton and Anna (Hendrickson) Harris, was born January 9, 1928 in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1930, Richard's family moved to Morris, where he grew up and attended school. Following his schooling, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served in WWII. Following his discharge, he returned to Morris and began working for Raymond's Brothers Trucking. In 1951, he re-enlisted in the Marine Corps and served during the Korean Conflict. Upon his discharge, Richard attended and graduated from Hanson's Mechanical and Technical School in Fargo with a degree in welding. He was united in marriage to Junice Lubenow in November, 1965 and the couple made their home in Minneapolis. While living in Minneapolis, Richard worked for Rosco Manufacturing in until his retirement in the mid 1980's. Following his retirement, he returned to Morris, where he has continued to live until the time of his death.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Morris, the VFW and the Senior Citizens. He was a ham radio operator and enjoyed building radio controlled planes.
Richard died on Monday, August 21, 2006 at his home in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 78 years.
He is survived by: one son: Greg (Lisa) Harris of Starbuck; two grandchildren: Breenna and Brady Harris; one sister: Jerry Kopacek of Donnelly; two nephews: John Kopacek and Jack Kopacek and one niece: Joan Kopacek all of Donnelly. He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant sisters.
Honorary pallbearers are all former and current marines. Deb Mahoney will serve as organist for the service with Mary Huebner serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
