Funeral services for Richard Dean Haupert of Herman will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Herman, MN. Father Peter VanderWeyst will be officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Richard Dean Haupert, son of Aelred and Alice (Clark) Haupert, was born January 29, 1934 in Bancroft, Iowa, where he was baptized at St. John's Catholic Church. At the age of eight years old, Richard's family moved to Herman, Minnesota, where Richard was confirmed at St. Charles Catholic Church. Richard attended and graduated from Herman High School in 1951. Following his schooling he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served in the Korean War. While serving he received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal and the UN Service Medal. He received an honorable discharge on March 8, 1956. For 27 years, Richard worked for Trans World Airlines and lived in various states, California, Wyoming, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arizona. Dick spent most of his life living in Missouri before returning to Herman in 1991, where he has continued to live until the time of his death.
Richard was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Herman and the Herman American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, crop checking and anything that involved being outdoors. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Richard died on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 77 years.
He is survived by one son: Troy Haupert of Ottawa, Canada; one daughter: Traci (Kevin) Newlon of Blue Springs, MO; three grandchildren: Nathan (Jolene) Newlon, Ryan Newlon and Breanne Newlon; 11 siblings: John (Brenda) Haupert of Sagle, ID, Darrell (Elfreide) Haupert of Rice, Rita (Ernie) Jutz of N. St. Paul, Arlon (Donna) Haupert of Mora, Jean (Wally) Ristow of St. Paul, Lois (Bud) Anderson of Donnelly, Dave (Roseann) Haupert of Cottage Grove, Leonard (Cathy) Haupert of Ithaca, NY, Rose (Tom) Atkinson of Iowa Falls, IA, Charles (Martha) Haupert of Willmar and Milton (Franchetta) Haupert of Herman and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers for the service will be Richard's brothers: John, Darrell, Arlon, Dave, Leonard, Charles and Milton. Marilyn Backman will serve as organist for the service with the St. Charles Choir providing special music. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
