Richard Howe

Funeral services for Richard Howe of Chokio will be held Monday, May 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio. Reverend Elmer Cox will be officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in the Chokio Lutheran Cemetery, rural Chokio.

Richard Howe, son of Gordon and Ida (Campbell) Howe was born on December 30, 1930 in Aurora, Illinois. He moved with his family at the age of three to Chokio, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended school. After his schooling, Richard moved to Aurora, Illinois where he worked at a wallpaper factory. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Mae Rupert on April 30, 1950 in Aurora. In 1951, the couple moved to Chokio and purchased the family farm in 1962. Along with his farming, Richard sold seed and feed for many years. The couple lived on the same farm for 61 years. Richard was a great shot and was known by many as "Dead-Eye Dick"; he loved to hunt anything and enjoyed deer camp in northern Minnesota. He was also known as "The Card Guy" as Richard sent out many birthday and anniversary cards to all he knew. Richard enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.

Richard died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, near his farm having lived to reach the age of 80 years.

He is survived by his wife: Bonnie Howe of Chokio; four sons: Steven (Wanda) Howe of Chokio, James (Wendy) Howe of St. Cloud, Jeffrey (Sheri) Howe of Rockville and John (Lisa) Howe of Red Wing; one daughter: Lynette Howe-Thorstad of Chokio; 20 grandchildren: Trampas (Carly), Zachary, Shane, Heather and Levi; Jamie (Steven), Angela, Adam and Becca; Joseph, Samuel, Melanie and Mitchel; Jack, David and Katelyn; Justin (Kelly), Jason, Jacob and Leah; three great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Nathan and Kayla and one brother-in-law: Charles Olson of Richmond, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mildred Olson and a grandson: Joshua James Howe.

Pallbearers for the service are Richard's grandchildren. Kayla Gillespie will lead the honorary pallbearers who are the following: Harold Claassen, Harvey Ruona, Jr, Mark Christensen, Bradley Wade, Theodore Eul, Bob Berg, Kevin Mecklenburg, Harold Hansen, James Gillespie, Harvey Gillespie, Keith Peterson, Jerome Faith, William Schott, Jr and Dennis Golombiecki. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
