Funeral services for Richard Myers of Morris, formerly of Hancock will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hancock, with Pastor Ginger Beck officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.
Richard "Dick" Lawrence Myers, son of Charles and Clara (Charles) Myers, was born March 4, 19191 in Moore Township. Richard grew up on the family farm outside of Hancock. He attended country school through the 8th grade and continued his education at the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris. Following his schooling, Dick continued to work on the family farm, before moving to San Diego, CA to work in the Airplane Factory. On December 14, 1941, he was united in marriage to Hazel Driggins. Following their marriage, the couple lived on the family farm near Hancock. In 1944, they moved to their own farm site near Hancock. They retired from farming in 1983 and moved into town. Dick and Hazel enjoyed many bus tours and spending time with their grandchildren during their retirement. Hazel died on June 30, 2004 and in 2010, Dick moved to Skyview in Morris, where he has continued to live until the time of his death.
Dick was a lifetime member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hancock. He enjoyed working in the yard and stayed active in current trends in farming and news. He especially enjoyed visiting with friends and spending time with his family.
Dick died peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2015 surrounded by his family at the St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, Minnesota. He lived to 96 years.
He is survived by his son: Richard (Diane) Myers of Walcott, ND; six daughters: Darlene (Richard) Pool of Richville, JoAnn Myers of St. Cloud, Roberta Myers of Minneapolis, Judy Myers of Eden Prairie, Janel Myers of Eden Prairie and Donna (Greg Christopher) Schumacher of Wahpeton, ND; one brother: Bill Myers of Hancock; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one brother: Charles "Chuck" Myers and son-in-law: Neil Schumacher.
