Richard Stephens

Funeral services for Richard Stephens of Morris, MN will be held Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, with Rev. Darrell Boe officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 and a time of sharing to follow at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Tuesday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.

Richard Loren Stephens, son of Loren and Arvilla (Zahl) Stephens, was born April 6, 1936 on the family farm in Pepperton Township. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Faith. Richard grew up and attended country school before graduating from Morris High School in 1954. During his schooling and following his graduation, Richard farmed with his father on the family farm until entering the U.S. Army in 1959. After serving his country and being honorably discharged, he returned home to continue farming. Richard eventually retired from farming, but still continued to bale hay until this spring.

Richard enjoyed playing slow pitch softball, watching Minnesota sports and ice fishing, his favorite winter sport. He also loved to visit with everyone and will be dearly missed.

Richard died on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris. He lived to 79 years.

He is survived by one brother: Donald (Karen) Stephens of Morris; two sisters: Carol Grotjohn of Breckenridge and Arvilla (William) Gausman of Las Vegas, NV; two sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Stephens of Calumet and Karen Stephens of Herman and several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Darlene; two brothers: Samuel and Robert; two nieces: Theresa Klabunde and Brooke Drinkwitz; one nephew: Charles Stephens and one brother-in-law: Robert Grotjohn.
