Robert Wayne Johnston, son of Zeno and Susan (Sedjo) Johnston, was born March 13, 1935 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended school. Following high school, he attended one year of Technical College. Robert lived and worked in various places after his schooling, San Gabriel, Arcadia and Duarte, California, Starbuck and Glenwood. Bob enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served during the Korean Conflict as an interpreter and barber. On June 21, 1958, he was united in marriage to Marilyn DeQuattro. The couple made their home in Glenwood, where they raised their children: Greg, Heather, Bonnie and Todd. Bob was employed by Douglas Machine in Alexandria, Minnesota for over 30 years.
Bob was a member of the American Umpire League and Golfers Association. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, carving, painting, softball, watching the Minnesota Vikings and following his children through their sports activities while they were in high school and college. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Bob died on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Glacial Ridge Health Systems in Glenwood, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 73 years.
He is survived by his wife: Marilyn Johnston of Lake Minnewaska; two sons: Greg (Stacey) Johnston of Princeton and Todd (Dawn) Johnston of Crookston; two daughters: Heather Johnston of St. Louis, MO and Bonnie Johnston of Minneapolis; five grandchildren: Caitlyn, Christina, Taylor, Cole and Wade; two brothers: Bruce (Mickey) Johnston of Champlin and Jerry Johnston of Minneapolis; one sister: Caroline (Dick) Shuda of Minneapolis and six nieces and nephews: Barbara, Mark, Jenny, Stacey, Lindsay and Abbie. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Dick and niece: Kelly Johnston.
