Robert James Reese, son of Robert M. and Jessie (Baillie) Reese, was born May 28, 1925 in Hoff Township in Stevens County, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from Hancock High School in 1943. On May 27, 1944, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served as a storekeeper on the USS Capahee, an aircraft carrier escort, which transported airplanes to Guam and picked up men who had been serving oversees and brought them home. He received an honorable discharge on February 22, 1946. Following his discharge, Bob attended Lee?s Barber College in St. Paul, MN. On November 26, 1946, he was united in marriage to Peggy Fugleberg at the Bethel Baptist Church in Minneapolis. The couple made their home in Hancock, where Bob worked in the barbershop for one year. He then worked in Bill Brandt?s Barbershop in Morris for eight years. In 1956, he bought Joe Brunsmans Barbershop and had his business there until his retirement in 1990. He was also an insurance agent for American Life and Casualty for 20 years. Peggy died on March 6, 1999 and Bob has continued to live in Morris since that time.
Bob was a member of the Pomme De Terre Golf Club, the American Legion, VFW and the Masons. He enjoyed golfing, dancing, playing cards; especially bridge and he loved his rose garden.
Bob died on Sunday, July 24, 2005 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 80 years.
He is survived by one daughter: Mona Lyn (Thomas Hassing) Reese of Weinheim, Germany; two sons: Robert Scott (Mary) Reese of Lenexa, KS and Carter James (Carolyn) Reese of Eden Prairie; four grandchildren and one sister: Marian Schoenwether of Bradenton, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
Pallbearers for the service are: Bob Stevenson, Zip Bell, Avery Reese, Duane Hausmann, Fred Switzer, David Evenson, Ken Reese and Carl Benson. Honorary pallbearers are: Wes Gray, Ben Mikkelson, Les Lindor and Don Linser. Deb Mahoney will serve as organist for the service with Mary Huebner serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
