Funeral services for R. Glenn Thedin of Morris, Minnesota will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. Reverend Jennifer Amy-Dressler will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Saturday. Burial will be held at a later date in Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Glenn Thedin was born on May 9, 1926 in Morris, Minnesota to Robert and Mabel (Dalen) Thedin. He spent his early years in Morris, moved to Portland, Oregon with his family for several years during the Depression and returned to Morris, where he attended school and graduated from Morris High School. After graduation, he farmed in the Kensington area from 1944 to 1947. He then attended Dakota Business College and NDSU in Fargo, studying accounting. As a young man, he was stricken with polio and spent six months recuperating in a Fargo hospital and in Minneapolis at the Sister Kenny Hospital. He worked at the Minnesota Grain Exchange and at Associated Builders as a paymaster while in Minneapolis.
On November 17, 1956, he married Dorothy Demo at Plymouth Congregational Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1958, Glenn returned to Morris with Dorothy and daughter Tammy to do business at Thedin Realty and Insurance with his parents, Robert and Mabel. Their sons, David and Mark, were born in Morris. He retired from the business in 1999, but kept "the office" until 2011.
Every autumn, during the 70's and 80's, he camped and canoed on Crane Lake in Canada with other insurance agents. He and his family also went fishing at a cabin on Mill Lake and other lakes in the Alexandria area every summer for years. Glenn was a longtime member of the Lions and greatly enjoyed working in the bingo booth at the Stevens County Fair and doing the yearly Lions Radio Show. He also belonged to the Eagles and the 9-F Sportsman Club. Other hobbies included gardening, chopping wood, bowling and pets, especially Chihuahuas. He attended many DFL activities and was an avid Twins fan.
R. Glenn Thedin, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Westwind Village in Morris, Minnesota after a nine month battle with pancreatic cancer. He lived to reach the age of 86 years.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Dorothy Demo Thedin of Morris; three children, Tammy (Lee) Goracke of Moorhead, David Thedin of Morris and Mark Thedin of Minneapolis; granddaughter, Melissa Goracke of Bemidji; grandsons, Julian Goracke and William Goracke of Moorhead; two great-granddaughters, Sierra Schlief and Winona Chalmers of Bemidji and his brother, James F. Thedin of Morris. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mabel and his sister, Fern, who passed away in 1995.
