Roberta Volker

A visitation for Roberta Volker of Herman, Minnesota will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2018 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris.  Memorials are preferred to Lakeside Cemetery in Herman and Herman-Norcross Dollars for Scholars.

Roberta Faye VanZomeren, daughter of Herman and Bertha (Quam) VanZomeren, was born December 1, 1953 in Morris, Minnesota.  She was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Herman. Roberta grew up on a farm in Eldorado Township near Herman, and attended school in Herman graduating from Herman-Norcross High School.  After graduation, she attended Alexandria Technical School for a year. On April 15, 1972, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Willis Volker at the United Methodist Church in Herman.  The couple made their home on a farm outside of Herman where they raised their three children.  Roberta spent many years taking care of her family, while also working at the Herman-Norcross School as a janitor and at Sax’s Café and Karen’s House, where she continued to work until the time of her death.  Roberta spent many hours cleaning houses. She enjoyed all of the friendships she made and the many conversations she had, while working outside the home.

Roberta enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking big meals for the whole family, puzzles and reading.  She loved her fur babies Lilly and Larry, many outdoor cats, and had a love for “udders.” Most of all, Roberta cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, especially watching their sporting events and playing board games.

Roberta died Thursday, June 21, 2018 at her home near Herman, Minnesota.  She was 64 years old.

She is survived by her children: Matthew (Kerstin) Volker, Christopher (Christina) Volker and Rachel (DJ Vangsness) Volker all of Herman; seven grandchildren: Allissa, Jacob, Haley, Patrick, Logan and Abigail Volker and Chloe Winther; brother-in-law: Roger Stevenson of Herman and aunt: Frances VanZomeren of AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband: Willis; her parents; sisters: Patricia Stevenson and Dorothy Christians; brother: Richard VanZomeren and nephew: Mark Christians.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
