Memorial services for Roger Tollefson of Starbuck, MN will be held on Friday, November 13, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at West Zion Lutheran Church, rural Starbuck. Reverend Jackie Harvestine will be officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in West Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Starbuck.
Roger Allen Tollefson, son of Ole and Agnes (Olson) Tollefson, was born on September 7, 1942 in Starbuck, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at West Zion Lutheran Church, rural Starbuck. Roger grew up and attended District 95 country school and later graduated from Starbuck High School in 1960. Following his schooling, he began farming on the family dairy farm. He was united in marriage to Loretta Hustad on June 27, 1964 at Indherred Lutheran Church in Starbuck. To this union two daughters, Cheryl and Lynn were born. The family made their home on a farm south of Starbuck. He later sold his dairy herd and began work as a welder. On October 27, 2000 Roger married JoAnn Boorman. Roger continued work as a welder for over 20 years. He was currently employed at WASP in Glenwood at the time of his death.
Roger was a very active member of West Zion Lutheran Church. In his younger years he was involved in FFA and 4-H, later becoming a leader. He also was on the Pope County Fair Board. He enjoyed softball, racing snowmobiles, raising and showing quarter horses.
Roger died on Friday, November 6, 2015 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN. He was 73 years old.
He is survived by his wife: JoAnn Boorman of Starbuck; two daughters: Cheryl Stewart of Rockford, IL and Lynn Hermes of Plano, TX; sister: Norma (LaMont) Jeitz of Starbuck; two step-children: Russell (Debra) Bruyere of Grand Rapids and Rebecca Rafferty of Glenwood; three step-grandchildren: Derek Bruyere, Scheie and Devin Rafferty; nephew: Benjamin Jeitz of Starbuck; and niece: Andrea (Michael) Zimmerman of Lake Elmo. Roger was preceded in death by his parents.
