The funeral for Ronald Dean Flannigan, of Chokio, Minnesota will be held on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio, with Reverend Gloria J. Anderson officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church from 2 to 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. Burial will be at the Summit Cemetery, Morris, Minnesota.
Ronald Dean Flannigan, son of Robert and Leola (Asmus) Flannigan was born on November 13, 1957 in Morris, Minnesota. He graduated from White Bear Lake High School in 1975. After his schooling, Ron moved to the Chokio, Minnesota area, where he worked on his Uncle Kenneth Asmus' farm. Ron was united in marriage to ArLou Joy Sperr on May 27, 1978 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio. He started working as a feed salesman for Moorman Manufacturing in 1981, and was later promoted to District Manager. In that same year, he also began his career in Ambulance Service. Ron was an EMT, and taught CPR and First Aid Training. In 1998, he became a fulltime paramedic and EMS instructor for the Stevens County Ambulance Service and in 2004 became the administrator. From 2006 to 2008, he worked as the site coordinator and instructor for AAS degree in Paramedicine for Mesabi Range Community and Technical School. In 2008, due to health reasons, Ron could no longer serve as a paramedic and began working as the Simulation Lab Training Coordinator at Ridgewater College, in Willmar and Hutchinson, Minnesota. In July of 2010, he graduated as a registered nurse from Excelsior College with the degree of Associate in Applied Science in Nursing .
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where he served as council president, trustee, deacon, senior league youth advisor and Sunday school teacher. Ron was also a member of the Minnesota Association of Emergency Medical Services Educator's Board, American Red Cross, American Heart Association, Central Minnesota EMS Corporation Board of Directors, Hutchinson Area Health Care Board, Chokio-Alberta High School Sports Booster, mentor for Morris Area Community Education, and Critical Access Hospital Committee member and QA, QI Board all of the Holy Trinity Hospital in Graceville, MN. He was recognized by many, and received several awards. One of the last awards he received was the 2012 Baldwin EMS Educator of the Year Award.
He enjoyed boating, scuba diving, fishing, camping, hunting, lawn and garden work, and home improvement projects. Most of all, Ron loved and cherished his family and was proud of his children Matthew and Becky, Emily and Jeff and granddaughter, Grace.
Ron died peacefully and with great courage and dignity on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Essentia Health in Graceville, Minnesota. He was 55 years old.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, ArLou, Chokio, MN; one son, Matthew (Becky) Flannigan, Salix, IA; one daughter, Dr. Emily (Jeffery) Odell, Brookings, SD; one granddaughter, Grace Flannigan, Salix, IA; his mother, Leola Flannigan, White Bear Lake, MN; three sisters, Peggy (Darrell) Maus, Andover, MN, Ramona White, Stillwater, MN and Ranea Nohava, Menomonie, WI; one brother, Douglas Flannigan, White Bear Lake, MN and many family and friends. Ron was preceded in death by his father, Robert, niece, Ashley Nohava, his grandparents, Arthur & Lena Asmus and Archie & Rose Flannigan, and a brother-in-law, James Behan.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS THE FAMILY REQUESTS MEMORIALS ARE GIVEN IN MEMORY OF RON FOR A SCHOLARSHIP FUND THAT WILL BE SET UP IN HIS NAME.
