Ruth Brenden was born August 7, 1921, in Elbow Lake and passed away Monday morning, May 12, 2014, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Ruth was the daughter of Ole and Gina Swenson. She attended country grade school in Sanford Township and graduated from Elbow Lake High School. She went on to Business School and returned to Elbow Lake working as a medical secretary.

Ruth married Rueben Brenden on October 27, 1944. She made her home in Starbuck for nearly 70 years. Ruth was the Fron Church organist for about 40 years and continued to play piano and organ for area churches and organizations. Ruth played almost daily for her own enjoyment right up to the time of her death. She felt a sense of accomplishment for the four Sons of Norway medals she earned walking 500 miles. Ruth's biggest enjoyment came from spending time with her family.

Ruth is survived by her six children, Robert (Mary) Brenden of Cambridge, Mark (Sandy) Brenden of Dallas, TX, Jane (Greg) Martinson of Sartell, Todd (Sue) Brenden of Sauk Rapids, Shan (Rick) Manke of Detroit Lakes, and Jill (Mark) Heggestad of Fridley, 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren with a ninth on the way, and brother Robert (Marian) Swenson of Elbow Lake.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rueben; sisters, Altha Leraas, Norma Johnson, and Gladiva Andersen.

Monica Gosseling is the organist and Kathy Larson of Detroit Lakes is the soloist. Pallbearers are her 12 grandchildren. Starbuck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
