Funeral services for Ruth Kearney of Morris will be held Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church near Morris. The Apostolic Christian Church Ministers will be officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Ruth Eleanor Schmidgall, was born February 27, 1939 to Ray and Milliecent (McDonnell) Schmidgall in Hancock, Minnesota, where she grew up in the Hancock and Clontarf areas. Ruth was the oldest of 13 children. She moved with her parents and family to Winthrop, MN in 1947. She attended and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1956. Following her graduation, she moved to Hancock, where she worked at the Hancock Creamery. IN 1964, she moved to Minneapolis, where she was married to John Kearney. From Minneapolis she and her husband moved to Fargo, North Dakota, where they had one daughter, Barbara Ann, born May 7, 1969. While living in Fargo, Ruth worked at Hornbachers, until they moved to Morris, where they owned and operated Kearneys Clothing Store. Ruth worked at Kearney's until the closing of the store. Ruth later worked in Alexandria as part owner of Elmwood Resort.
Ruth enjoyed reading, playing board games, puzzles and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Ruth died on Wednesday, September 18, 2012 at the Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park, Minnesota. She lived to reach the age of 73 years.
She is survived by one daughter: Barb (Justin) Voge of Audubon; two grandchildren: Erin and Ryan Voge of Audubon; four brothers: Robert Schmidgall of Minneapolis, Dwayne Schmidgall of Minneapolis, Larry (Marci) Schmidgall of Joplin, MO and Charles (Cathy) Schmidgall of Lake Itasca; five sisters: Janice (Sam) Boe of St. Paul, Patricia (Steve) Munson of Burnsville, Joanne Hafdahl of Osceola, WI, Debra (Gary) Wray of Savage and Christine (Kent) Leman of Eureka, IL and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Karen Schmidgall, Joyce Schmidgall and Beverly Broms and one sister-in-law: Terri Schmidgall.
Pallbearers for the service are all of Ruth's nephews and brothers-in-law. Music will be provided by the Apostolic Christian Church Choir. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
