Ruthe Edith Rosten, daughter of Albert and Henrietta (Storlie) Rosten, was born March 22, 1924 at Glenwood, Minnesota, where she grew up and attended school. She was baptized and confirmed at Indherred Lutheran Church of rural Starbuck, Minnesota. After graduating from the Glenwood High School, Ruthe received her Normal Training in Moorhead, Minnesota. She taught in several country schools in the Starbuck area. On June 14, 1947, she was united in marriage to Orville Dahlseng at Indherred Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in New Prairie Township near Starbuck, where they lived and farmed for 61 years. Ruthe stopped teaching for several years while she raised her children. Ruth graduated from the University of Minnesota Morris with her advanced teaching degree. She returned to teaching, serving the schools in Sedan, Farwell and Hancock. Ruthe taught until retiring in 1982 from the Hancock Public School. After retiring, Ruthe and Orville continued to live on the farm until Orville's death on June 19, 2008. Ruth then made her home at The Wellstead of Rogers in Rogers, Minnesota, where she lived until the time of her death.
Ruthe had been a very active member of St. John's Lutheran Church near Starbuck, where she served for over twenty years as church secretary and was active with the Ladies' Aid. She was also involved with the Starbuck Study Club, was a strong supporter of the Luther Crest Bible Camp and was active over the years as a 4-H Leader. Some of Ruthe's other interests included traveling, playing cards, dancing, gardening, feeding the birds, working countless hours in the yard, sewing and quilting, getting together with their many family and friends to visit, and constantly thinking of ways to spoil her grandchildren. Ruthe will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ruthe died on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at The Wellstead of Rogers in Rogers, MN, having lived to reach the age of 87 years.
