Sadie DeYoung Ras, daughter of Andrew and Pearl (Vanderwerff) DeYoung, was born January 10, 1911 in Mt. Vernon, South Dakota. Sadie grew up and attended school in the Crookston, Minnesota area. On March 31, 1939, she was united in marriage to Henry Ras at the Christian Reformed Church in Crookston. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Conrad, Montana, where Henry worked for a farmer/rancher. They later moved to California, where Hank worked as a welder in the shipyards. While living in Starbuck, Sadie volunteered at the Thrift Shop and belonged to the ladies aid at their church. For several years, Sadie would drive special needs kids to the DAC. Sadie and Henry had one daughter, Pearl, who was born on November 8, 1956. They remained in Starbuck for 40 years, before retiring to Hancock. Henry died on January 6, 1996. Sadie remained in Hancock until December 9, 1998, when she moved to West Wind Village in Morris, where she has continued to live until the time of her death.
