Sherman Gordon Syverson was born to Gordon & Elaine (Solberg) Syverson November 6, 1938, in Montevideo, Minnesota. He grew up in Benson, Minnesota and graduated from high school in 1956. He was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Free Church in Benson. After high school, Sherm enlisted in the National Guard, serving stateside at Fort Knox, KY and Fort Leonardwood, MO. He continued with the Guard for 8 years after discharge, playing trumpet with the U.S. Army Band at various functions around the Midwest. On August 23, 1958 Sherm and Delores (Olson) were married at Big Bend Lutheran in Milan, Minnesota; and they were blessed with 2 sons, Michael Sherman and James David.

Sherms career for many years involved sales with Collier Publishing Co., Moor Man Mfg., Penn Corp Insurance, which led to family moves to Moorhead, Minnesota, Dallas, Texas, Sioux City, Iowa, Rock Valley, Iowa and Starbuck, Minnesota. After retirement Sherm drove for Peoples Express for 6 years, which was his favorite job of all.

Sherm had many interests including: gardening, sawing and splitting wood for the winter, traveling to visit kids and grandkids, entertaining at various nursing homes, telling Lena and Ole jokes, playing for church on Sunday mornings, and just being with people, but closest to his heart was his music, and he spent many hours at the piano. He humbly accepted his talent as a gift from God and was quick to give Him credit.

Sherm loved life here, but was happy to go home to his Jesus on Thursday, August 18 leaving his wife, Dee; sons, Mike and Jim (Brook); and grandchildren, Becky, KayDee, Amy, Caleb, Jon and Will. He is also survived by his brothers, Bob, Del (Diana), Ron (Barb) and John; sister Nathalie (Darwin) Rutland; brother and sister in law, David and Karin Olson; aunt, Syrene Syverson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, parents in law: Clifford and Clarice Olson; and nephew, Trent Syverson.

Blessed by Sherms memory.
