Funeral services for Shirley Alma Barsness of Fergus Falls, will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. Reverend Rebecca Worner will be officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Committal services will be at the West Zion Lutheran Cemetery near Hancock, with Reverend Jacqueline Harvestine officiating.
Shirley Alma Johnson, daughter of Oscar and Florence (Mason) Johnson, was born October 14, 1927 in Minneapolis, MN. She grew up on a farm south of Elbow Lake, and was confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake and graduated from Elbow Lake High School. She was united in marriage to Elsworth Barsness, and the couple made their home near Hancock, MN, where they raised their four children on the farm.
Shirley's very favorite pastime was spending time with her family. She is best known for loving her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful Mother – her children's very best friend. She will be remembered for her kindness and wonderful sense of humor.
Shirley died on August 10, 2012 at Pioneer Nursing Home in Fergus Falls, MN. May God bless and keep our very dear Mother in Heaven forever.
Shirley is survived by her four children: Daryl (Jessica) Barsness and their children: Kara (Jason) Mrnak, Eric (Karen), Chelsie (Tom) Martin, Ian and Cody; Sandra (Patrick) Conroy and their children: Regan and Daniel (Kelsi); Richard (Julie) Barsness and their children: Waylon, Matthew, Paul and Caleb; and Steven (Paula) Barsness and their children: Sarah (Andrew) Casey, Bryce and Danielle and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Elsworth.
Shirley's family will serve as pallbearers for the service, with the music and scripture readings being provided by Shirley's Grandchildren.
