Funeral services for Shirley Danielson of Starbuck, will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 11:00 am at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck, MN. Reverend Sarah Taylor will be officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm at the Starbuck Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be at the Fron Lutheran Cemetery near Starbuck.

Shirley Jane Signalness, daughter of Milton and Virginia (Thomas) Signalness, was born July 3, 1940 in Starbuck, MN. She was baptized into the Lutheran Faith in Starbuck, and confirmed in January of 1954. Shirley grew up and received her education in Starbuck, graduating from the Starbuck High School in 1958. After her schooling, Shirley lived for a time in the Twin Cities where she worked for various employers, including the Nash Finch Company. She later returned to Starbuck, where she continued to work at a variey of jobs. On December 4, 1976, Shirley was united in marriage to David Danielson at Fron Lutheran Church. The couple lived and farmed in the Starbuck area, and Shirley continued to work outside the home as well. Some of her employers over the years included Pederson's Super Market, Southdale Family Practice, and most recently, she spent 14 years as a customer service representative for Service 800. She also served on the board of Holmes City Mutual Insurance Company. David died on October 7, 2001, and Shirley has continued to live on the farm since that time.

Shirley adored horses and spent many happy hours riding. She loved to dance and glided with grace and rhythm. She enjoyed reading, gardening, country music, watching the news and current events along with TV biographies and police mysteries, and she always enjoyed a good movie. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining. Her home was her pride and joy and she took great delight in it. Shirley enjoyed genealogy and learning more about her Norwegian heritage. She was very active in the church and community and was involved in many social and church groups.

Shirley died on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the Talahi Care Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota, after a courageous battle with a brain tumor and kidney failure. She had lived to reach the age of 71 years.

She is survived by three children: David Dengerud of Starbuck, Nancy Weston of Minneapolis and Steven (Julie) Dengerud of Litchfield; her mother: Virginia Walburn of Starbuck; four grandchildren: Shelby, Grant, Brooks and Drew Dengerud, all of Litchfield; one brother, Roger (Gloria) Signalness of Lakeville; one sister, Becky (Steve) Anderson of Westport; one niece, Dawn (Tony) Blaisdell and three nephews: Shawn (Margaret) Signalness, Kevin (Jody) Signalness and Wayne Signalness. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Danielson and her father, Milton Signalness.

Pallbearers for the service are: Robert Johnsrud, Orlie Brecht, Howard Jaeck, Reuben VanLuik, Derald Hanson and Shawn Signalness. Shari Opdahl will serve as organist for the service, with Mary Huebner serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
