Memorial services for Shirley McDonnell of Alberta, Minnesota will be held Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Nazarene in Alberta. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Shirley Ann McDonnell, daughter of Richard and Darlene (Henriksen) McDonnell, was born July 10, 1955 in Graceville, Minnesota. She grew up and attended Chokio-Alberta Schools, graduating in 1973. She continued her education at Willmar, Aberdeen, SD and Wahpeton, ND, receiving her RN Nursing Degree. Following her schooling, Shirley began working at the Morris Hospital for the next three years. She then moved to Fargo, ND, where she worked for six years at St. Luke's Hospital as a Pediatric ICU Nurse. Shirley moved back to Alberta to the family home, where she has continued to live until the time of her death.
Shirley was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Alberta. She enjoyed reading, doing crafts and walking the dogs for her neighbors and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Shirley will be remembered by everyone whom she referred to as "Sweetheart".
Shirley died on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN. She lived to reach the age of 57 years, 11 months and 29 days.
She is survived by her three brothers: Michael McDonnell of Alberta, Mark (Shannon) McDonnell of Rochester and Joseph (Amy) McDonnell of Moorhead; four nieces: Samantha, Moira, Chloe and Emma; two nephews: Beau and Kieran and her dog: Suzy. She was preceded in death by her parents.
