Funeral services for Shirley Tomlin of Morris, MN will be held Monday, September 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Morris. Reverend Paul Erdal and Reverend Chris Richards will be officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be held at a later date in Summit Cemetery.
Shirley T. Tomlin, daughter of Stirling and Frances (Thompson) Tomlin, was born October 12, 1934 in Morris, Minnesota. She was baptized at her grandparent's home in Henning, Minnesota by Reverend Drage and was confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Morris by Reverend Larson. Shirley grew up and attended Long Fellow Grade School in Morris and graduated from Morris High School in 1952. She continued her education at Moorhead State Teacher's College for two years before earning her B.A. in Elementary Education. Following her schooling, Shirley taught in the St. Louis Park School District, until she moved to Great Falls, Montana, where she taught for several years. In 1960, Shirley moved back to Morris and finished her teaching career of 30 years at Morris Area Schools. Following her retirement, Shirley continued to live in Morris until the time of her death.
Shirley was a member of the Morris American Legion Auxiliary, many bridge clubs and was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church. She loved to do crossword puzzles, dance, singing and being around dogs. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Shirley passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Sanford Medical in Fargo, ND. She lived to reach the age of 79 years.
She is survived by one brother: Stirling "Tom" Tomlin of Morris; one sister: Harriet (Bob) Stevenson of Morris; three nieces: Kathy (Kevin) Sheehy of Savage, Barbara Stevenson of Morris and Sally (Mike) Ward of River Falls, WI; one nephew: Jeff (Marie) Johnson of Savage; five great-nieces and nephews: Marisa Stevenson, Betsy Ward, T.J. Johnson, Joe Johnson, and Zach (Megan) Ward and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother: Charles Tomlin; one sister: Elizabeth Johnson and one brother-in-law: Ted Johnson.
