Funeral services for Sidney "Sid" Noordmans of Morris, Minnesota, will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Morris, with Pastors Marlin Mohrman and Phil Noordmans officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.

Sidney Noordmans, son of Dewey and Jessie (Hoekstra) Noordmans, was born May 21, 1922, on a family farm in Walden Township near Hancock, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended country school. Following his schooling, he continued to help on the family farm. In 1942, Sid and his brother Mark enlisted in the United States Navy and served together in World War II. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Sid moved back to rural Hancock and continued farming. He was united in marriage to Esther Healy on September 27, 1947, at the Christian Reformed Church in Hancock. The couple made their home on a farm three miles east of Hancock, raising a family of five children. In 1984, Sid and Esther moved to a farm a mile from where Sid was born. They later moved to an apartment in Morris; however, Sid continued to farm with his son, Dale. Following Esther's death on September 4, 2008, Sid lived near Sauk Rapids with his daughter Rhoda and her husband Larry for a time before returning to Morris, where he continued to live until the time of his death.

Sid was a member of the Evangelical Free Churches in Hancock and Morris and an active member of the Gideons. He enjoyed playing his Hawaiian guitar and singing with Esther, playing regularly in nursing homes. He taught Sunday School most of his adult life, and often filled the pulpit when his church was without a pastor. Sid was very inventive, working with leather, wood, and steel. Often, if he wasn't sure how to proceed on a project, it became clear to him after his afternoon nap. He had a special love for children and horses, and will be remembered for his faithfulness, hard work, and thankful heart.

Sidney died Friday, January 6, 2017, at West Wind Village in Morris at the age of 94.

He is survived by five children: Martha (James) Taylor of Mound; Dale (Betty) Noordmans of Hancock; Phil (Teri) Noordmans of San Diego, CA; Rollie (Rachel) Noordmans of Brainerd; and Rhoda (Larry) Fagerland of Sauk Rapids; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Ann Meyer of Holland, MI; Audrey Evink of Hancock; Doris Tensen of Brooten; and Greta (John) VanderPol of Albuquerque, NM; brother: Tony (Joyce) Noordmans of Ferndale, WA; sister-in-law: Ella Mae Noordmans of Willmar; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; his parents; brothers: Harley Noordmans and Mark Noordmans; sister: Ida Gunnink; and four brothers-in-law: Rich Meyer, Ken Evink, Gerard Tensen, and Jerry Gunnink.

Memorials are preferred to Gideons International.
