There will be a visitation for Steven Allen Banken Sr., of the Chokio/Morris area, on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris.
Steven Allen Banken, son of Raymond and Mildred (Puhl) Banken was born on December 11, 1947 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm south of Morris, Minnesota and attended school at Alberta Public School in Alberta. After his schooling, Steve began farming with his father. In 1975, Raymond retired and Steve took over the family farm. He was united in marriage to Joan C. VanHorn on November 25, 1988, at the First Lutheran Church in Morris. The couple continued to live and farm near Morris. Joan died on November 4, 2006. Steve continued to farm the family farm until the time of his death.
Steve loved farming, family and his friends. He will be remembered for living a simple life, working hard, and having a "Big Heart".
Steve died on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the Courage Cottage in Morris, having reached the age of 65 years old.
He is survived by one daughter, Dawn (Scott) Winscher, Royalton, MN; two sons, Chris (Paula) Banken, Anthem, AZ and Steven Banken Jr., Chokio, MN; two brothers, Ed (Faith) Banken, Morris, MN and Jeff (Kim) Banken, Newtown, MN; one sister, Bea (David) Telford, Appleton, MN; six grandchildren, Courtney Anderson, Royalton, MN, Justice and Kennedy Banken, Anthem, AZ, and Zachary, Samantha and Kyleigh Banken, Sleepy Eye, MN, and one great-grandson, Carter Anderson, Royalton, MN. Steve was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
