Funeral services for Steven Craig Paulson of Morris, MN will be held Sunday January 6, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Evangelical Free Church in Morris, visitation at 1:00 pm. Reverend Marlin Mohrman will be officiating. Burial will be at Eagle Lake Lutheran Cemetery in Willmar, MN at a later date. Military rites will be provided by the Morris American Legion, VFW and AmVets.
Steven Craig Paulson, son of Orrin and Alice May (Elder) Paulson, was born on October 9, 1951 at Camp Rucker, Alabama. He was baptized at Aastad Lutheran Church of Fergus Falls and confirmed in faith at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar, MN. He spent his early years in Fergus Falls and graduated from Willmar High School in 1970. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Baklund, on July 8, 1972. Steve served in the US Air Force as a law enforcement specialist from 1972 -1976, during which time he served in Minot, ND and Guam. He was honorably discharged with rank of Staff Sergeant and returned to Minnesota where he attended Willmar Community College in 1977. The family moved to Morris, MN where Steve began to work for Otter Tail Power Corporation as a lineman and service representative until his retirement in 2006.
During retirement, Steve worked for Mike's Express Lube part-time and spent time fishing in two fishing leagues, hunting with friends and family in the US and Canada, driving his 1971 Corvette in the local car club, watching stock car races, and spending time with his family. He served as a gun safety instructor for over 20 years in Morris. He spent many hours on the road driving to Southeastern Minnesota to watch his granddaughter, Alyssa play basketball. He was considered the team's biggest fan for many years. He loved fishing with grandson Cole and playing with granddaughter McKenna.
Steve went to be with the Lord on Tuesday January 1, 2013 at home with his family in Morris, MN. He lived to reach the age of 61, professed his faith in Jesus our Lord and saved by grace.
Preceded in death by mother, Alice May (Smay) Paulson; father-in-law, Clarion Baklund; and brother-in-law, Clair Baklund.
Survived by wife, Mary, of Morris and children: Lisa (Craig) Selk of Hayfield and Craig (Tricia) Paulson of Osceola, WI; grandchildren Alyssa, Cole, and McKenna Selk; his father, Orrin Paulson of Mesa, AZ; brothers Bruce (Laurie) Paulson of Clam Falls, WI and Mark (Margaret) Paulson of Milan; mother-in-law, Harriet Baklund of New London; brother-in-law, Dale (Nancy) Baklund of Hutchinson; sisters-in-law: Sharon (Sherlan) Baker of Willmar, Kathy (Mark) Reese of New London and Sylvia (Quinton) Koll of New London, and 18 nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are: Dan Heaton, Ray Muchowski, Cary Bergo and Mike Yeager. Along with family and those who called him friend. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
