Memorial services for Steven Staples of Morris will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, with Father Todd Schneider officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Morris.
Steve was born on August 5, 1950 in Morris Minnesota to Wally & Helen (Lesmeister) Staples. Steve was 1 of 7 siblings and grew up on the family farm south of Alberta. Steve reminisced about his chores and life on the farm frequently. Steve also was an athlete and excelled in football and basketball at Alberta High School and later, Chokio-Alberta High School. At school is where he met the love of his life, Kathy. They were married on February 26, 1972. Together they called Alberta their home and raised three children-Bob, Christy and Steph.
Before entering the construction industry, Steve attended Willmar Junior College. Steve worked a variety of jobs in the concrete construction industry within Minnesota and decided to open his own concrete construction business, Staples Construction. Steve worked alongside his son Bob, brother Ron and many nephews and extended family through the years. Steve was a wizard at his work in construction and his work can be found in all parts of west central Minnesota. Steve’s work ethic was second to none. He was passionate and dedicated to his profession and helped many of his employees become the best concrete construction workers in the Stevens County area. Steve was also in the Minnesota National Guard for 7 years and served at Fort Ripley in the Little Falls area.
Eventually, Steve and Kathy decided to make their lake home their permanent residence on Clitherall Lake. Through the years, Steve enjoyed spending time at the lake place with his family and traveling with his wife Kathy. Steve was an avid sportsman and sports fan. He enjoyed fishing with his friends and family. He especially enjoyed his winter Lake of the Woods trips with his dear friends. Steve also enjoyed deer hunting and loved his weekends at the deer shack with his friends, his son Bob and grandson Trey. Steve also did everything he could to attend events for his grandchildren. He was one of their biggest fans and you could see him smiling in the back row alongside his wife Kathy, gushing with pride. Steve enjoyed watching the MN Vikings, MN Twins and MN Gopher teams in his spare time. Steve’s smile will never be forgotten.
Steven Robert Staples, dedicated husband, father, grandpa, brother and uncle passed away peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer in Saint Cloud at his daughter Christy’s home on July 21, 2024 at the age of 73.
Steve is survived by his children, Bob (Trudy) of Hancock, MN, Christy (Tim) Steinbach of Saint Cloud, MN, and Steph (Ryan) Popp of Richfield, MN; six grandchildren, Alexis and Kaitlyn Staples, Trey and Ashleigh Steinbach, and Josie and Matthew Popp; sisters, Jan Mahoney, Pam Staples and Pat Staples; brothers, Ron (Juanita) Staples and Dick (Mary) Staples; brother-in-law, Bob Mahoney; sister-in-Law, Geri (David) Hennen; brothers-in-law, Gerald (Audrey) Cline and Tim Cline, Marvin Kisgen, and Gordon Scribner and many nieces and nephews.
Steve is preceded in death by his wife, Kathy; parents, Wally and Helen Staples; sister, Cathy; his father-in-law, Raymond; his mother-in-law, Josephine; his sisters-in-law, Patricia Kisgen and Pamela Kussatz and his brother-in-law, Ron Cline.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in care of the arrangements for Steve.
