The funeral for Sylvia Anna Brown, of Starbuck, Minnesota will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, near Starbuck, with Reverend Paul Johnson officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Burial will be held at a later date at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Starbuck.

Sylvia Anna Brevig, daughter of Joseph and Christie (Stoa) Brevig was born on September 1, 1935 in Starbuck, where she grew up and attended school. After graduating from Starbuck High School in 1953; she attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. Following her education, Sylvia began working as a 2nd Grade teacher in New York Mills, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Ray Brown on August 10, 1957 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Starbuck. Sylvia ran a daycare out of the couple's home for several years. In 1979, she began working at the Starbuck Telephone Company until retiring in 1992. Over the years Sylvia also sold Avon.

She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the ladies aid. Sylvia also was a member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. She enjoyed camping, reading, cross stitching, puzzle books, playing cards and computer games. But most of all, Sylvia loved spending time with her family.

Sylvia died on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having reached the age of 77 years old.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Brown, Starbuck; one son Terry (Nancy) Brown, Starbuck; two daughters, Shelley (Lonnie) Koloski, Alexandria, and Stacey (fiancé John Collins) Tharaldson, Owatonna; two brothers, Ralph (Delores) Brevig, Phoenix, AZ and Kenneth (Rita Samuel) Brevig, Starbuck; eight grandchildren, Ashley (Brandon) Grimsley, Benson, Mitchell (Shanna Johnson) Brown, Garfield, Megan (Chris Hoberg) Brown, Starbuck, Rebecca (John) Olson, Moorhead, Matthew and Tyler Koloski, Alexandria, Nicole (Erik Goodman) Tharaldson, Chanhassen, and Stephanie Tharaldson, Minneapolis; five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Connor, Shayla and Blake Grimsley and Abby Johnson; and one sister-in-law, LaVonne Brevig, Lindstrom. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Erling Brevig and two sisters-in-law, Agnes and Dorothy Brevig.

Pallbearers for the funeral will be Mitchell Brown, Matthew Koloski, Tyler Koloski, John Olson, Erik Goodman, Brandon Grimsley and Chris Hoberg. Dee Syverson will be organist and Joy Erdman will be soloist for the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials are given to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
