Thelma Jean Rawdon, daughter of Elmer and Hazel (House) Rawdon, was born October 4, 1917 in Fort Randall, South Dakota. As a young child, Thelma lived in many places in South Dakota. She attended and graduated from Frankfort High School in Frankfort, SD. On October 4, 1938, she was united in marriage to Cecil Jones in Brookings, South Dakota. Following their marriage, the couple lived in various places throughout South Dakota and Minnesota, before settling in Minneapolis in 1954, where Thelma worked as a clerk at Warner Hardware Store. In 1974, Thelma and Cecil retired and moved to Starbuck. Cecil died on May 21, 1999 and Thelma continued to live in Starbuck until the time of her death.
Thelma was a member of the Minnewaska Lutheran Home Auxiliary and Homemakers. She always had a green thumb in the garden, where she especially enjoyed caring for the African Violets. She also liked doing crafts, sewing and bird watching.
Thelma died on Sunday, October 14, 2007 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 90 years.
She is survived by two children: Tedda (Lowell) Roth of Miltona and Kenneth (Mary) Jones of Coon Rapids; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter: Ruthann Curran; her parents and one brother: Eugene Rawdon.
Pallbearers for the service are: Jayson Jones, David Roth, Bradley Roth, Steven Roth, Dustin Pflipsen and Corey Olson. Laurie Musselman will serve as organist for the service with Marie Anderson serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
