Thomas Cunningham

The funeral for Thomas Junior Cunningham, of Hancock, Minnesota will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hancock, with Reverend Ginger Beck officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Lakeside Cemetery, Hancock.
Thomas Junior Cunningham, son of James Thomas and Hazel (Stonecipher) Cunningham was born on June 1, 1935 near Waubun, Minnesota where he attended country school. In 1945, the family moved to Clinton, Minnesota where Tom attended rural school and later graduated from Clinton High School in 1953. After his schooling, he worked as a custom baler. Tom was united in marriage to Margaret Messner on June 5, 1955 at the First Congregational Church in Hancock. In March of 1957, the couple moved to Hancock and started farming with Margaret's father. He was involved with Hancock Equipment, Hancock Feed and Grain and Hancock Ag Center, before starting TC Trucking, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2010.
Tom was a member of the First Congregational Church in Hancock. He served on the Stevens County Planning Committee and the Hancock Commercial Club. He took pleasure in playing cards, hunting, fishing, playing softball and bird watching. Tom loved taking family vacations and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He actively followed all Minnesota sports teams.
Tom died on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris. He was 79 years old.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, Hancock; five children, David Cunningham, Milwaukee, WI, Paul (Laurie) Cunningham, Fergus Falls, Jon (Jody) Cunningham, Hancock, Ruth (Brian) Meyer, Brandon, SD and Gregg (Peg) Cunningham, Hancock; one niece, Debra Amos, San Luis Obispo, CA; one sister-in-law, Lois Cunningham, Paso Robles, CA; fourteen grandchildren, Justin (Jessy) Cunningham, Neal (Jamie) Cunningham, Brian (McKenzie) Cunningham, Collin Cunningham, Weston Meyer, Jacob Meyer, Sean Cunningham, Chase Cunningham, Carrie (Jay) Pereira, Beth (Corey) Doran, Allie (Garrett) Beiningen, Stacie (Eric) Peterson, Lindsie Cunningham and Emily Cunningham and nine great-grandchildren, Leah, Connor, William and Caleb Pereira, Jewel and Aubrey Cunningham, Toby Doran, Harlow Cunningham and Ebon Peterson. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Virgil Cunningham and infant Francis and a nephew Brian Cunningham.
