Memorial services for Thomas Deseth of Morris, Minnesota will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home Chapel in Morris. Reverend Tom Fangmeier will be officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to the service.
Thomas Jens Deseth, son of Jens and Elma (Danielson) Deseth, was born on December 11, 1939 in Edmore, North Dakota, where he grew up and attended school, graduating in 1957. Following his schooling, Tom enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in Korea. After his honorable discharge in December, 1960, Tom moved to Minneapolis, MN where he began working for Burlington Northern Railroad, where he worked for over 30 years. Tom was united in marriage to Carol Baum on July 31, 1971 in Long Prairie, MN. The couple made their home in Morris and spent many winters in Needles, California following their retirement. Tom continued to live in Morris until the time of his death.
Tom was an active member of the Morris American Legion and VFW, where he enjoyed serving on the Honor Guard. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, walking throughout town, horseraces, crossword puzzles and reading. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Tom died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN. He was 76 years old.
He is survived by his wife: Carol Deseth of Morris; three sons: Robbie (Diane) Baum of Morris, Darrin (Melissa) Deseth of Ironton and Michael (Samantha) Deseth of Morris; one daughter: Tammy Kittelson of Inver Grove Heights; three sisters: Corrine Sanderson of California, Sharon (Tom) Wiser of Moorhead and Valerie (Jerry) Leingang of Bismarck, ND; 12 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Leland, Harlan, Donald and Robert Deseth and five sisters: Jeaneen Anderson, Shirley Ann Dahl, Linda Verke, Karen Deseth and Emelie Demester.
Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
