Thomas was born on May 17, 1951, in Long Prairie, Minnesota the son of Robert and Margaret (Remer) Kieffer. As a child, the family moved to Morris where Tom grew up. He graduated from Morris High School in 1969 and continued his education at Canby Technical College where he earned an electrician degree.

Tom was proud to have served in the Minnesota Army National Guard for six years.

On April 5, 1974, he married Lucy Storm. The couple made their home in Morris where they raised their four children, Luke, Tina, Lance and Bobby.

Tom joined his father in his electrical business, Kieffer Electric, after his graduation from technical college and was later joined by his brothers. In 1998, Tom branched off and began his own business with his sons, Tom Kieffer & Sons Electric. Although he was retired, he stayed involved in the business and often visited many of the sites.

Tom was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, the American Legion and the Eagles where he held offices at the local and district level.

Tom was known as “Captain Tom” on Lake Mary by Alexandria. He enjoyed having family and friends over to the lake or the home in Morris and cooking big meals for everyone who showed up. He was an avid Minnesota sports fan faithfully following the Vikings and Twins. He enjoyed time with his family, especially his wife, showering her with many hugs and kisses. Family was first in his life. Long drives with Lucy and the family brought great enjoyment to Tom. He never really got lost, just made creative ways to get somewhere utilizing all and any back road he could find.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Lucy of Morris; children, Luke (Robin) Kieffer of Hancock, Tina Devick of Glenwood, Lance Kieffer of Glenwood and Bobby (Chrissy) Kieffer of Alexandria; grandchildren, Owen and Anton Kieffer, Tommi Jo and Victoria Devick and Lucy, Mary and Nora Kieffer; siblings, Diann (Bob) Hokanson of California, Anita Poss of Moorhead, Jim (Donna) Kieffer of Florida, Fr.
