The memorial service for Thora Leona Tollefson of Morris, Minnesota will be held on Monday, November 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus with Pastor Minette Stalheim Johnson officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. A private burial will be at the Cyrus South Cemetery, Cyrus.
Thora Leona Hanse was born October 18, 1919 to Melvin and Ella (Tinseth) Hanse in Stevens County, Minnesota. She received her education in Cyrus Public School, graduating in 1937. Following her schooling, Thora attended one year of Teachers Training in Glenwood, Minnesota. She taught four years in country schools in Pope and Stevens County. She then went to Minneapolis for one year, where she worked in the defense plant. Thora continued teaching for the next two years in LaPrairie School in Coleraine, Minnesota. On June 7, 1946, she was united in marriage to Harold Tollefson in Morris. The couple was blessed with two children, Cheryl and Steven. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Cyrus. Thora went on to attend MSU, graduating in 1963 with a Bachelors Degree. She continued to teach in the Morris Public Schools for the next 24 years. Harold and Thora shared 52 years of marriage before Harold died.
Thora was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus, where she was a Bible Study Leader. Thora enjoyed family activities, sewing quilts, embroidering and reading. Thora followed all local and state sports and never lost faith in the Minnesota Twins, Viking or Gophers.
Thora died on Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris. She was 95 years old.
She is survived by one daughter, Cheryl (Norris) Breivik, Orlando, FL; one son, Steve (Sandee) Tollefson, Cyrus, MN; four grandchildren, Christin Wendt and Kellie Wendt, both of Orlando, FL and Paul (Kristie) Tollefson, Garfield, MN and Mark (Lisa) Tollefson, Pine City, MN; four great-grandchildren Parker and Kate Tollefson, Garfield and Taylor and Ali Tollefson, Pine City; one sister, Margaret Aslagson, Starbuck, MN; and several nieces and nephews. Thora was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother, Harold and four sisters: Dorothy, Nuna, Rubye and LaVerne.
Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
