The funeral for Tilfred A. Moen, of Lowry, Minnesota will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lowry, with Reverend Joe Skogmo officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Lowry.
Tilfred Arden Moen, son of Thomas and Alma (Feigum) Moen was born on October 1, 1930 in Peever, South Dakota. He grew up and attended school in Lowry, Minnesota; following his schooling, Tilfred began farming with his father. He was united in marriage to Arlene Opal Refsal on April 24, 1954 at the Indherred Lutheran Church near Starbuck. The couple farmed in the Glenwood/Lowry area until 1957, when they moved to Minneapolis, where Tilfred worked at General Mills. In 1966, the family returned to the Glenwood area and engaged in farming until their retirement. In 1995, Tilfred and Arlene sold the farm to their son Roger and moved into Starbuck. In their retirement years, the couple stayed busy working for consolidated Ag. Services delivering parts and machinery to area farmers. They also worked at Quinco Press in Lowry delivering newspapers to surrounding towns. Tilfred and Arlene moved to Lowry in 2012. Arlene died May 10, 2013. Tilfred continued to live in Lowry until the time of his death.
He was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he held many positions through the years. He also served on the Glenwood Hospital Board for over 20 years. Tilfred was also very active with 4-H while his children were growing up.
Tilfred died on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at his home in Lowry. He was 84 years old.
He is survived by eight children: Roger (Carol) Moen of Glenwood, Daniel (LuAnn) Moen of Glenwood, Wanda (Dick) Magaard of Nevis, Janet (Tony) Dropik of Nelson, Rose Anne (Curt) Dahlseng of Starbuck, Richard (Karen) Moen of Glenwood, Sandra (Duane) Cooley of Glenwood and Sarah (Gary) Runck of Redwood Falls; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Marvel Olson of Alexandria and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Tilfred was preceded in death by his wife; parents; three brothers: Joseph, Gilbert and Irvin; grandchildren: Jodie Lynn Moen, Dane Richard Magaard, Baby December, Nora William and Samson Delilah Moen; sister-in-law: Lorraine Moen; granddaughter-in-law: Steffanie Dahlseng; and one great-grandson: Joshua James Dahlseng.
