A Celebration of Life for Todd Joseph Woelfel, of Chokio, will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at the Neal Hofland Field in Chokio. The family requests that your favorite baseball attire is worn and that you bring your own chair. A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022, from 2:00 - 5:00 P.M. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, Minnesota. John Moengan, a close family friend, will be presiding over the service.
Todd “TJ” Woelfel was the youngest child of three born to Steven and Audrey (Hanson) Woelfel in Buffalo, Minnesota on September 12, 1992. Todd was raised in South Haven and Pequot Lakes, Minnesota and received his education at Pine River High School, graduating with the class of 2011. Following his high school education, Todd moved to Morris, Minnesota to attend the University of Minnesota-Morris where he played on the Cougars baseball team. While in Stevens County, Todd worked many jobs including: a cashier at Willie’s Super Valu, a Certified Nurses Aide at Prairie Community Services and West Wind Village, a Purchasing Specialist at Superior, an Agronomy Services Associate at Glacial Plains in Murdock, and most recently was employed at CHS in Chokio as a Senior Operations Specialist. While working at West Wind Village, Todd met a sweet nurse, Sarah Green, and after a Snapchat message, a relationship quickly began and the two were engaged on November 27, 2021.
Todd loved all sports but was most passionate about baseball. Todd pitched throughout school, college, and beyond, playing with the Nimrod Gnats and most recently the Chokio Coyotes. Todd was a great pitcher, but his best value was in the dugout where he made every game he was a part of more enjoyable for all. On and off the field, he was the friend you could always count on. When he wasn’t playing sports, he could be found refereeing or umpiring for local teams of all ages and watching sports – especially his Michigan State Spartans. Todd was also an avid hunter, outdoorsman, and grillmaster.
Todd’s smile was infectious and lit up every room he entered. He had a special way of connecting with people of all ages and always went out of his way to help others.
Most importantly, Todd was a person that people could count on and one of the best friends and teammates you could ask for. His Coyotes teammates were his second family and he was deeply honored to stand on the mound with them. Baseball was his passion and he lived for connecting with others who shared his love of the game.
Todd died on Saturday, August 13, 2022; he was 29 years old.
Todd is survived by his parents: Steven and Audrey Woelfel of Pequot Lakes; siblings: Ryan (Megan Banko) Woelfel of San Antonio, TX and Stephanie (Christopher) Williams of North Bergen, NJ; and fiancée Sarah Green of Chokio. He is preceded in death by his Uncles and Aunt: Allan Hanson, Bonnie Hanson and Thomas Kensler.
