Tony Wiedmann

July 19, 1920 — March 20, 2008

Tony Harvey Wiedmann, son of Otto and Amelia (Rittel) Wiedmann, was born July 19, 1920 in Dixon, SD. He was baptized at Burke, SD and confirmed at Long Valley, SD. At the age of 11 he moved to the Wanblee, SD area, where he finished school at Wanblee High School in 1938. He was united in marriage to Doris Becker in Rapid City, SD on January 8, 1943. Together they raised four sons: Jerome, Theodore, Thomas, and Terry.



Tony farmed and ranched for 43 years near Wanblee. He also had a life long love of flying and at the age of 50, took flying lessons and earned his pilot's license. He owned three planes during his lifetime, and flew for the Civil Air Patrol in Kadoka, SD for five years. He was supervisor for the Soil Conservation System for 18 years serving Jackson County, and he was treasurer of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Martin, SD for many years.



After Doris' death, Tony married Mercedes Sorby on December 23, 1985, and they continued to farm and ranch. In 1990 they retired and Moved to Rapid City. In 1998 they moved to Morris, MN to be closer to Mercedes' children and grandchildren.



Tony died on Thursday, March 20th at the West Wind Village of Morris having lived to reach the age of 87 years.



He is survived by his wife: Mercedes, three sons: Jerome (Barbara) of Painesville, OH, Thomas (Cheryl) of Kenneth, MN, Terry of Broken Bow, NE and 5 step - children: Diane (Larry) Smith of Minneapolis, MN, Donald (Joni) Sorby of St. Cloud, MN, Daniel Sorby of Villard, MN, Dean (Janice) Sorby of Buffalo, MN, Debra (David) Brown of Hancock, MN; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother: Pastor Harry Wiedmann of Waukesha, WI and a host of nephews and nieces. Tony was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife: Doris; his son, Theodore; his grandson: Fred Wiedmann; sister-in-law; aunts and uncles.



Pallbearers for the service will be David Brown, Dean Sorby, Larry Smith, Phil Harpstead, Joe Rooney, Chris Rooney. Phyllis Joos will serve as organist with Sharon Martin as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of arrangements
