Funeral services for Valda Vera Erdman of Starbuck, Minnesota will be held Saturday, March, 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at East Zion Lutheran Church in rural Starbuck, MN. Reverend Don Berheim will be officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at East Zion Lutheran Cemetery in rural Starbuck.
Valda Vera Bohlman, daughter of Ernest and Margie (Kleespie) Bohlman, was born November 21, 1929 in Big Stone County, Minnesota, where she grew up. She was baptized and confirmed in Correll, MN. On May 4, 1955, she was united in marriage to Clarence Erdman. To this union five children were born. The couple made their home and farmed in Rolling Forks Township in Pope County. The couple farmed together until 1982, when Clarence retired from farming, they later moved into Starbuck. In addition to helping Clarence on the farm and raising their children she also worked at the bakery in Starbuck and the Minnewaska Lutheran Home. Clarence passed away in August of 2000. Valda continued to live in Starbuck and eventually moved to the Minnewaska Lutheran Home where she lived until the time of her death.
Valda enjoyed gardening, baking, looking in recipe books, trying new recipes, and watching the Food Network Channel. She was a strong woman who never complained and always had a positive attitude. She was a lifelong member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Legion.
Valda died on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 surrounded by family at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 81 years.
She is survived by her five children: Dennis (Linda) Erdman of Benson, Wendell Erdman and fiancAC. Joy Dubois of Starbuck, Rickie Erdman of Great Bend, KS, Lynda (Bill) Goldenstein of Hancock, and Jamie (Vicki) Erdman of Starbuck; grandchildren: Amy Erdman and fiancAC. Randy Lange, Ryan (Sarah) Erdman, Josh (Diane) Erdman, Melissa Smith and fiancAC. Matt Ernst, Heidi Erdman and fiancAC. Rick Britain, Lauren Erdman, Chad (Jenelle) Goldenstein, Tia Goldenstein, Krystal (Jacob) Dohlen, Kyle Goraczkowski, Dusty Goraczkowski and fiancAC., Ann Svec; great-grandchildren: Austin & Brady Goldenstein and Caleb Erdman; sister: Joyce Wilkening of Correll; sisters-in-law: Carol Bohlman of Correll, Dorothy Bohlman of Bell Plain and Thelma Gades of Glenwood; many nieces and nephews and special friends: Bob & Sarah Peterson, Billy Killacky and Teresa Emmert. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter-in-law: Beverly Erdman and two brothers: Alvin and Larry Bohlman.
Pallbearers for the service are Valdaa�(TM)s grandsons: Ryan Erdman, Josh Erdman, Chad Goldenstein, Kyle Goraczkowski, Dusty Goraczkowski and Randy Lange. Honorary Pallbearers are the Staff at Minnewaska Lutheran Home. Karen Mitteness will serve as organist for the service with Melissa Smith serving as soloist and Becky Worner and Joy DuBois providing special music. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
