The memorial service for Vera Dean Jensen of Graceville, Minnesota, formerly of Hancock, Minnesota will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Hancock, with Reverend Ed Jensen officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be held at a later date at the Lakeside Cemetery, Hancock. Feel free to join the family in wearing purple in honor of "Purple Grandma."
Vera Dean Foss, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Marquart) Foss was born on April 12, 1922 in Hancock, Minnesota, where she grew up and graduated from Hancock High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to Harold Jensen on August 11, 1940; the couple enjoyed 46 years together before Harold died on September 6, 1986. Vera continued to live in Hancock until 2006, when she moved into the Grace Village in Graceville, Minnesota.
Before Vera's eyesight diminished, she enjoyed recycling greeting cards for the Hancock Senior Center and watching the Minnesota Timberwolves basketball team on T.V. Her greatest joy was her family and looked forward to their visits and holiday gatherings. Each grandchild and great-grandchild had a very special place in her heart. Vera enjoyed her years at Grace Village and the new friendships she made. The family would like to thank the staff at Grace Village for the wonderful care she received.
Vera died on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Essentia Health in Graceville. She was 90 years old.
She is survived by her children: Ed (Terry) Jensen, Boulder City, NV, Barb (Jack) Pochardt, Plymouth, MN and Dean (Katie) Jensen, Graceville, MN; seven grandchildren: Eric Jensen, Las Vegas, NV, Denise (Chris) Knorr, Sacramento, CA, Kris (Andrea) Jensen, La Verne, CA, Vonnie (Bill) Husted, Glencoe, MN, Jodi (Jason) Rosati, Otsego, MN, Jesse Jensen, and Jered Jensen, both of Hancock, MN; three step-grandchildren: Josh Bolton, Glencoe, MN, Stephanie McLain, St. Paul, MN and Maggie McLain, Graceville, MN; nine great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Isabell Foss and Helen (Myron) Haugen all of Hancock, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter-in-law, Donna Jensen and one brother, Harry Foss.
