Vera Marie Severns, daughter of William and Cora (Swett) Severns, was born July 16, 1921 in Keystone, Nebraska. She was the 10
th
of 12 children. Vera grew up in Encampment, Wyoming, where she received her education. On July 25, 1938, she was united in marriage to Rossiter Pace “Babe” Jones in Walden, Colorado. The couple lived in Nebraska, Wyoming and South Dakota, prior to making their home in Morris, where they raised their five children, Edward, Kathy, Craig, Shane and Julie. Vera was a housewife and took wonderful care of her family. She made her home in Morris for over 60 years, most recently at the West Wind Village from January, 2008 until the time of her death.
Vera was a member of Federated Church in Morris, where she enjoyed quilting. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for many years, serving as Treasurer and Past Worthy Matron. She enjoyed bowling in her younger years, playing cards, listening to the radio and having coffee with her neighbors. Most precious to Vera were her children and grandchildren. As Vera faced each new phase in her life she was an example of how to endure and be content.
Vera died on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 87 years.
She is survived by three children: Craig (Laura) Jones of Cottonwood, Shane (Ruth) Jones of Morris and Julie (Rick) Gramm of Hancock; 12 grandchildren: David Jones, Doug (Missy) Evenson, Brad (Kris) Evenson, Blair Jones, Amber (Tommy) Raths, Bethany Jones, Katie Jones, Aaron Jones, Alexis (Dallas) Rylander, Whitney Gramm, Tanner Gramm and Chandler Gramm; seven great-grandchildren: Ross, Austin and Gabby Jones, Kathy (Shain) Wilke, Mike Evenson, Kendal Evenson and Kylie Raths; two great-great-grandchildren: Rebecca Wilke and Robert Wilke and one sister: Verna Mae Hammer of Lander, WY. She was preceded in death by her husband: Babe in 1979; one son: Edward Pace Jones (Madeleine) in 1979; one daughter: Kathy Diane Evenson (Larry) in 1969; her parents; five brothers: Hugh, Howard, Tommie, Robert and Charles; five sisters: Ona, Zelma, Mildred, Ruth and Margie and one sister-in-law: Charis Anderson.
Pallbearers for the service are: Doug Evenson, Brad Evenson, David Jones, Blair Jones, Tanner Gramm, Aaron Jones, Chandler Gramm, Tommy Raths and Dallas Rylander. Honorary pallbearers are all of Vera’s great-grandchildren. Cheryl Rempel will serve as organist for the service with Maurine Nelson serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
